Microsoft has converted another mobile phone manufacturer. At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Sony Ericsson and Microsoft revealed the new XPERIA X1 smartphone. By winning over Sony Ericsson, Microsoft can tout that four of the top5 mobile phone manufacturers will be shipping Windows Mobile models this year.
The XPERIA X1 smartphone features an arc slider and QWERTY keyboard. It also features a 3-inch VGA display and a high-finish metal body. The XPERIA phone uses panels to allow users to navigate the Web, multimedia, and applications using a panel system that can be accessed with a finger tip. The phone will be available beginning in the second half of the year.
This is a nice addition to Sony Ericsson’s product line, since it gives customers the option of a Windows Mobile phone. It’s also a win for Microsoft, since the company has successfully added another mobile phone manufacturer to its growing list of Windows Mobile supporters. Sony Ericsson is another feather in Microsoft’s cap, which it can use to attract other manufacturers to Windows Mobile.
